A First Look at my 'Volcanic' Seaside.
The 'Volcanic' project has been going on behind the scenes at Firewire Surfboards for a few months now.
'Volcanic' references basalt; a rock formed from the rapid cooling of lava... Yes, hot lava. The stuff that comes from volcanoes. In fact, 90% of all volcanic rock on earth is basalt.
In Firewire's new 'Volcanic' surfboards, basalt fibers that are extruded from volcanic rocks are then crushed, melted and further extruded into woven fibers to make up a cloth that is then vacum bagged and laminated with bio resin around each Volcanic Seaside.
This Volcanic lamination creates a performance characteristic that is very similar to carbon in terms of weight, flex and response, but because the fibers in basalt are derived from organic raw materials, and then combined with bio resins, it serves as a better eco alternative than using traditional carbon fiber cloth.

「松明」、そして「知識の光」を意味する「TORCH」から名付けたこのモデルは、スピードとコントロール性を兼ね備えたミッドレングスをコンセプトに開発をスタート。
R.Uに加え、日本を代表するサーフボードシェイパーでありR.Uの父のY.U、そしてミディアムイノベーター陣の「知識の光」を詰め込み、具現化されたモデルです。
トーチの最大の特徴は、ミッドレンジのレングスに４チャンネルボトムとクアッドを組み合わせていること。
採用されている４チャンネルはY.U氏のアイデアを元にミッドレングスに最適化。シングルコンケイブの中にセンターチャンネルを配し、サイドチャンネルもコンケイブ状にシェイプされています。コンケイブが掘られていることでボードの前方から水を後ろに導くことができ、水流を無駄なくチャンネルに流し込むため、フェイスの荒れたコンディションでもひっかかることなくスムースに加速できます。
さらにアングルを付け末広がりにセッティングすることで斜め後方への水の流れも促進。チャンネルに沿ってセットされたクアッドがボードを傾けた際にも水をしっかりとホールドし、円を描くようなカービングを味わえます。
ミッドレンジならではの推進力を４チャンネルによるトルクフルなドライブに変換し、スピードに乗った優雅なカービングを可能にするトーチは、スモールコンディションからサイズのある波までマルチに対応する１本。
ショートボードからの乗り換えでも違和感なく楽しめるおすすめのモデルです！
