Paul McNeil x Deus Ex Machina - Artist Capsule

Paul McNeil is a goofy footer and has been all his life. Well known as one of the original Mambo artist, McNeil has also created and published several music books for kids and designed tour posters, album covers and endless merchandise for musicians including Beastie Boys, Beck, Pavement, Rolling Stones, Dinosaur Jnr and Sonic Youth. He is a crazy good surfer and has been decorating surfboards for years. These days he is pursuing his fine art career and exhibiting around the world. Originally from New Zealand but now residing in the sleepy town of Byron Bay Australia he surfs most days and dances most nights. Paul McNeil and Deus Ex Machina have created an apparel and hardware collection based on Paul’s love of surfing, Punk Rock and everything alternative. Concentrating on vintage surf styles laid across board-shorts and tees, this range is more prepared for summer than a seagull in Bondi.

Deus Bike Build Off 2019

For the first time, The Deus Bike Build Off went digital, in the hope of opening the competition up to not only the builders from local flagship areas, but to hear stories and see creative builds from all over the globe.

The response was huge, with participants from over 35 countries getting involved and uploading their builds and the stories of how they put it together.

In July, we held events at each of our Sydney, Milan, Bali, Tokyo, Biarritz and Venice locations to celebrate the event and get a first hand look at some of the local builds.

Thanks to everyone that entered the competition or came to one of the events.

Deus Ex Machina - Honda CB150 Versa Build

We were asked by Honda to produce our version of what there re-released CB150 could look like as a great Bali commuter. The sort of bike we’d build for ourselves to get to work on. A bike to whip to the beach and check the surf. A bike that invites you to throw a leg over to rip over to a mate’s place. A bike you’d take the long way home on. Wheels & Waves California is a tight-knit, invite-only moto event that is a much smaller, complementary version of the well-known annual European motorcycle show. This past August, the star-spangled version of Wheels & Waves took place over three days in the small surf town of Cayucos, California, 200 miles north of L.A. by way of the famous Pacific Coast Highway. Iron & Air teamed up with our friends at Converse to roll in and cover this “who’s who” of two-wheeled culture.
