Introducing our newest Creator & Innovator: Iconic artist, photographer, filmmaker and influencer, Thomas Campbell. Tying together all things we hold dear - board-building, art and apparel - we took the vibrant signature airbrush art from a quiver that Thomas painted for Travis Reynolds and applied it to a brilliant collection of products designed to disrupt and amaze.
What do a surfboard shaper, a glasser, a woodworker, an artist, an agriculturalist, a PhD chemistry student and a professional surfer have in common? A lot, as it turns out. Last month, Vissla invited a diverse cross section of their Creators & Innovators to share ideas and a few waves in Northern California. Danny Hess, Cliff Kapono, Evan Marks, Jay Nelson, Derrick Disney, Jeff McCallum and Alex "Superwolf" Villalobos stayed in a house equipped with a shaping bay in line of sight of fun surf. But unlike many surf trips, the waves themselves weren't the most stimulating part. "Everybody here is from such a different background, and they're bringing something different to the table," says Hess, the San Francisco-based shaper of wooden surfcraft. "The search for surf is almost the funnest part because you're just having interesting conversations and learning new perspectives." Press play on the video above to see highlights from a different kind of surf trip. Filmed and edited by Alex Kilauano

The Puddle Jumper HP is a souped up, slimmed down, re ned Puddle Jumper. It features a pulled in nose with the wide point brought back, and a narrower, pulled in tail block. The new outline enables the PJHP to surf even more like a normal board- a very playful board that’s easy to paddle and ride yet still allows more radical and quick turns than all the other PJ models. It’s easy on the eyes, sleek and re ned under the arm, and its smooth foiled lines deceptively hide its significant volume – with built-in speed to spare. Stand on the tail of this thing and simply go to town, up and down, round and round, like you have a motor in small surf. The tail, with its foiled rails and deep vee, holds in and gives confidence at high speeds. The overall at rocker, generous width, and deep central concave generate small wave squirt like you would expect from a Puddle jumper.
The Puddle Jumper HP can take the domesticated gentleman into a realm thought long gone. Speed, with quickness, fast but loose, precise but playful. If you are one of the thousands of surfers who have enjoyed one of the Puddle Jumper series, the PJHP allows you to take your small wave surfing to the next level.

When an elusive sandbar goes missing, Pace Ventura (Asher Pacey), a zany Mid North prospector who specializes in finding hidden gems, looks into the case. Before long many hideous beach specimens arrive on the scene, seeming to thwart his sleuth work. But with the help of friend and ex military Gareth Ablet (Garrett Parkes) the pair close the missing sandbar case, but not before many ridiculous misadventures.

Straight from Kelly: " Cymatic(s) is the study of wave phenomena, especially sound, and their visual representations. YouTube search it to see how the shapes that sounds of differing frequencies will create in sand on a metal plate (if you find the @slaterdesigns logo let me know the Hz frequency). Daniel Thomson and I had this idea to make a board that fits the ‘vibration’ of a wave in our minds. The minimal amount of board to do the maximum amount of surfing. We chopped the nose off ahead of the rail line you need and went with a pretty wide battail (like the SciFi model). With the added bite of the channels the tail still holds while giving plenty of lift. This edit is from one session at Haleiwa in January. I actually took the board there as a joke that day cause it was too big for what I thought it could handle. I got my best rides earlier that session but this Peter King edit gives you an idea. This is a four fin 5’3” X 18-5/8 X 2-5/16” X 25.5L. I don’t want to ride anything else right now and everyone who rides it wants to take it off my hands.

Mayhem’s always kept a talented stable of test drivers, and none as captivating a stuntman as Matt’s main man these days, Mason Ho.
Filming for Logan Dulien's Spapt 3 in Indo last year, Mace brought along a handful of new models from Mr. Biolos to give once-overs, some new shortboards, plenty of good wave tube boards, and as is almost always the case these days with Mason, a stubby, fishy little number— Mayhem’s newest variation on the wildly popular Puddle Fish, swapping pescador for pintail, and letting Mason run it through the gears all over the wave-riddled islands.
“For me, the Puddle Pin or a fish makes surfing a lot more fun in bad surf, and then they feel different in perfect, clean surf,” Mason tells Stab. “I try to pack one anywhere I go, always. Before 5’5” 19 1/4, I only heard my Dad say something funny about [fishes]. Then I saw the movie and instantly wanted one. I remember, being a grom, my quiver was super small, more contest boards, so it took a while to graduate to having a fish in the quiver. But I LOVED Andy and Ward in that OG movie—and Cory was ripping, too!—because they were regular foots and already my favorites.
I’ve had lots of different fishes from Matt over the years, and to be honest, I’ve never had a bad one. Many, many magic sessions. After a certain amount of time, I destroy them—and then completely fix them to destroy again. I've been riding the Puddle Jumper for years now—twin or quad, all are good— and it seems like they’re better than ever now. I’d say 40% of my sessions these days are on boards like this.”
