The first ever trip the EPOKHE surf family found themselves on was a quick dash down Pacific HWY. It ended on the south coast of Australia. It became an annual gathering known as Beauty Pockets. Again we hit the same highway.

Spend 7 days hunting south swells, bars, landscapes, isolation, the unexpected…anything that makes you stop and pull the camera out. Back on the road Dion, Mitch & Creed surfing this strange but beautiful coastline.

The ocean was blue, the snow white. The air cold and victorian bitter so, so cold. We told a lot of stories. Don't remember any of them. Spent our money. Less office, more journey. The world is a fucked up place with pockets of beauty.

In these troubled times nothing is more scary than the crowd. American poet Charles Bukowski wrote a famous poem about it called "the genius of the crowd" .
Sebastien Zanella spent a day with Nixon pro surfer Chippa Wilson, to illustrate this poem, showing a dark soul standing against the elements, an allegory of the freedom to be versus the majority who want you to remain an average human whilst controlling your thoughts.

Board Tales Episode 1 featuring Rasta in Byron

Episode 1 of Board Tales takes place in Byron Bay at the residence of Dave Rastovich. Dave candidly describes stories of pivotal boards in his life found through travel, friendship and the common bond of wave riding. Dave describes each board along with the approach, feel and mindset behind them. In the end, we learn that Dave has chosen to give away most of these boards so that others can experience the same happiness through these crafts that he has - a truly selfless act.

Black Rain

Deus Ex Machina is proud to present a short film by Andy Gough - "Black Rain" The black rain squall rolled overhead. Its downpour came in sideways sheets, turning the clean ocean surface to chatter. The drops falling heavy pushing deep below the water’s surface, joined by the welcome taste of rainwater. In a matter of minutes the squall had passed and the light offshore returned to groom the empty lineup. Waves peeling down the rocky coast, leaving nothing but turbulent water, only smoothed in time by the returning black rain. The trip itself was a short spontaneous one, this is one of if not my favourite waves to visit. It's just one of those places that I really enjoy spending self time at, reading, thinking, early mornings and early nights just simple living. I find the ocean there so unpredictable and mesmerising, one of those places you can sit and just about stare at the ocean all day and never really know what's going to happen next.
